Je n’ai lu que le premier tome de la série, Aurora Rising. Je ne pourrai donc m’exprimer que sur celui-ci et je ne sais pas ce que vaut sa suite, Aurora Burning.
Dans l’ensemble, j’ai bien apprécié. C’est divertissant, la prose est efficace et sympathique, quoique sans fioriture. C’est bien écrit et bien rythmé, les interactions entre les personnages sont rigolotes et rappellent parfois la dynamique de groupe qu’instaure régulièrement Pratchett dans ses livres, quelques références culturelles glissées çà et là jalonnent le récit. Ceci dit, qu’on s’entende bien : ce livre ne révolutionne en rien le genre. L’histoire est convenue, les personnages plutôt stéréotypés (et ils sont tous, je dis bien tous, beaux et incroyablement bien tankés — élément sur lequel les autaires appuient un peu trop à mon goût, et la tension sexuelle qui en découle est au mieux amusante, au pire pénible), les péripéties sont prévisibles et l’antagoniste éculé.

Mais… ben, force est de constater que ça se lit bien. Il y a quinze mille bouquins plus intéressants, qui abordent des questions plus inédites, qui traitent de choses diverses et variées, mais clairement si vous cherchez une petite aventure dans l’espace sympa et pas trop prise de tête, ben, ce livre-là est plutôt cool. Il y a de la diversité en termes de personnages, c’est assez fun à lire et ça ne se prend pas trop au sérieux.

Et je ne vous en voudrais pas de passer à côté. Ce n'est pas le livre du siècle. J’entends parfaitement qu’on n’a qu’une vie, qu’il y a beaucoup de choses à lire et que pas le temps de niaiser. Mais si pour autant ça vous fait envie, ben la lecture est plutôt agréable. Et je pense que je lirai le second tome.
